By the end of the Qing dynasty, a renowned martial artist named Peng Xiaoxin, also known as Peng Shui Lao Liu, learned Su Jiaquan in his hometown of Rongchang and later became a celebrated figure after passing the martial arts examination. He taught Su Jiaquan to many students in Rongchang, making it a popular style at that time.
Peng Xiaoxin was the 23rd generation inheritor of Su Jiaquan. He passed on his knowledge to Chen Zizhuang, Peng Youqi (family heir), Cheng Bucun, Yang Chengzhi and others who became the 24th generation inheritors. The next generations saw Chen Zizhuang, Peng Youqi and others teaching their disciples including Ping Yinfeng (family heir), Li Zhenglun and Cao Yigong who were part of the 25th generation.
The 26th generation inheritors included family heirs such as Pang Zhiyong and Zhang Guangcai as well as Xie Xiankuang.
Su Jiaquan's unique characteristics include emphasis on proper stance with balance between hard and soft movements; clear distinction between punches and palms; openness with big movements but fewer leg techniques; reliance on close-range combat using entwining techniques; floating or sinking movements while maintaining posture; flat stances for stability before unleashing powerful strikes.
In terms of technique, it focuses on connecting punches with footwork while combining arms for swift attacks utilizing six body positions for flexibility in movement combined with six foot positions that are difficult to discern during combat often referred to as "legs disappearing." Footwork typically involves quickening steps while incorporating "hidden legs" similar to those found in "sticking feet" techniques.
Overall, Su Jiaquan is known for its fast-paced yet precise fighting style which combines continuous striking sequences with punching elbows together emphasizing flexibility through various body positions combined with rapid-fire kicks while keeping opponents off guard due to unpredictable moves.
