南枝拳是南拳中一个出色的拳种，属后发制人的实战技法。据传，此拳出自南少林寺，为洪熙官所创，寺僧何岩曾学此拳。火烧少林寺时，何岩出走广东，至海陆丰碣石收徒传拳。陈南枝是何岩再传，是门中成就最高之人。

陈南枝(1847年—1925年)，又名鉴山，为名震一时的技击高手。潮汕武坛和民众都佩服其功夫，公认其为“好手南枝师”，并称其所教的拳为南枝拳。

It is said that this fist originated from the Shaolin Temple in the south, created by Hong Xiuzhou, and later learned by monk He Yan. When the Shaolin Temple was burned down, He Yan fled to Guangdong and went to Jieshi Hill in Hailufeng to teach his disciples.

Chen Nanqian (1847-1925), also known as Jian Shan, was a famous martial arts master whose skills were widely admired on the martial arts stage of Chaozhou and among the people. He was universally recognized as "Nanqian Master" and his teachings were referred to as Nanqian Fist.

Nanqian had exceptional talent and profound knowledge of boxing techniques. His teaching methods varied depending on his students' individual characteristics - even within one school he would teach different techniques. To this day, Nanqian Fist contains a wide variety of forms but can generally be divided into three styles: large, medium, and small. The basic stances of these three styles are similar but their styles and execution differ greatly.

Using calligraphy as an analogy: large style resembles cursive script; executing it is like writing cursive; medium style resembles running script; executing it is like writing running script; small style resembles grass script; executing it is like writing grass script.

The forms in Nanqian Fist are numerous when combined with weapons totaling several dozen sets. Among them "four steps" is the first set for beginners most important yet requiring rigorous practice; its most powerful move being direct thrusting punch which has elegant posture yet great impact - mastering this move means that practicing punch has accomplished much.
